3 Ways to Make Brushing Your Teeth Fun for Kids

It can be hard to get kids to focus on anything, including brushing their teeth. According to Aqua Fresh, in order to properly brush, they should be doing it for two minutes, which may seem like a lifetime for them! How can you make this important task fun? Here are three suggestions!

1. Make a Game of It

Kids love doing things that are fun and games are a great way to keep their interest. For example, they can imagine that they are a superhero and the toothbrush is a magic weapon that helps them fight crime. The enemy is the food particles and bacteria that get into their mouths. By brushing properly, they will be vanquishing these enemies. It’s a great way to fire up their imaginations. Be sure to monitor them while they do it, though, to make sure they’re brushing properly.

2. Develop a Reward System

This doesn’t mean that you need to pay them each time they brush their teeth. That can quickly backfire. Instead, have them earn stickers that they can put on a chart. If they reach a certain level on the chart, they can then trade it in for something inexpensive. You could even have them earn an extra bedtime story, for example. Your childrens dentist can also offer some ideas that they’ve seen work over the years.

3. Download an App

There are a variety of apps that you can download onto your phone that your kids can use while they brush their teeth. One of them could be one that plays music for the two minutes that they brush their teeth. Another could have one of their favorite characters offering words of encouragement while they brush their teeth. There are a lot of different choices out there. Just make sure that they are appropriate for your kids and test them out before you let your child use them.

These are just three ways to get your kids to do this. You can also do things like having them practice their brushing on others, having them dance to music while brushing, or having them use a colorful toothbrush or toothpaste that has their favorite characters on them. A childrens dentist could have other ideas for you if one of these doesn’t work. Then you can have a happy child with healthy teeth. Are you looking for a childrens dentist in your area?
