Many things might cause the teeth of children and teens to be less than straight. A child might have an overbite, underbite, or improperly aligned teeth because they don’t have enough room. An impacted tooth or emerging wisdom teeth might push others out of alignment. There are many potential causes, but the road to straight teeth is flooded with possible treatment plans. Here are some of the more effective and widely used methods to straighten teeth in children and teens.
Modern braces are more effective than ever at straightening the teeth of children, teens, and adults. According to KidsHealth, most people wear braces for about two years to get straight teeth. Modern braces are less noticeable and make it a lot easier to straighten teeth relatively quickly and with as little discomfort as possible. They are still made from metal wire, brackets, and arching wire. A bonding agent and elastic ligatures hold the braces in place so they can straighten teeth.
A less noticeable way to get straight teeth is to use the nearly invisible plastic aligners called Invisalign because they are mostly transparent. As the name would imply, it’s much harder to see Invisalign braces, which helps children and teens to feel more confident while wearing them. The invisible braces use clear plastic aligners and no brackets or wires like traditional braces. They work great at straightening simple cases of slightly misaligned teeth.
