Your Child’s First Visit to the Pediatric Dentist

When it is time for your child’s first dental visit, the pediatric dental team at Jacaranda Smiles will bend over backward to make it a comfortable experience. The goal of your first visit is for kids to develop positive connections and build trusting relationships with our pediatric dental team.

It is recommended by The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry that kids have their initial dentist visit either when they cut the first tooth or by their first birthday. During this first meeting, our dental care providers will discuss your child’s mouth health and provide steps on how to maintain good oral hygiene. A gentle exam will be performed, and all erupted teeth will be cleaned.

Some important topics that may be addressed during your first visit:

• The correct use of fluoride
• Thumb sucking and other oral habits
• Developmental milestones (e.g., teething)
• Balanced nutrition and oral health
• Your child’s risk for tooth decay and cavities
• Healthy soft tissues (gums and cheeks)
• How to prevent dental traumas and mouth injuries

In addition, we provide patient education on oral hygiene, including proper brushing and flossing techniques, and digital images will be taken, if needed.

Our pediatric dentist will recommend a follow-up schedule, typically every six months. These routine visits allow us to monitor your child’s healthy growth and development, provide preventative dental care and treat budding problems.

Your first orthodontic consultation with Jacaranda Smiles Children’s Dentistry & Orthodontics is always complimentary. At your first visit, we’ll assess your teeth, bite, and jaw alignment and discuss your orthodontic goals with you.

You’ll meet our team and our doctor, and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have. We’ll recommend a treatment plan based on your individual needs. Our team will discuss financial options and affordable payment plans for orthodontic treatment and can help customize a payment structure that best suits your needs.
