What is the Best (& Safest) Option for Tooth Whitening?

Dr. Khakhria will always advise you to see an orthodontist in any situation where you have questions about moving teeth and the bite. So when it comes to tooth whitening he would suggest consulting with your cosmetic dentist. Your cosmetic dentist will have the most experience in this area and therefore be the best to answer the question.

I Am an Adult and Lost My Retainer or Need a New One – What Should I Do?

Call our office to see Dr. Khakhria as soon as possible. The longer you wait the more the teeth will begin to shift. Have a new retainer made before they move excessively. If they have moved too much, Dr. Khakhria will consider options to line your teeth up again. The more the teeth have moved the harder it is to get them straight again. So, don’t wait too long!!

What is the Average Treatment Time for Braces?

The average orthodontic case under Dr. Khakhria’s care is completed within 15-18 months. He thinks of himself as the patient’s GPS system. His duty is to “guide” you to through your treatment. It is up to the patient how fast they want to drive to their destination. Factors that speed up treatment are good hygiene, looking after your braces/clear aligners, following instructions to the letter, keeping your appointments.

Pediatric Dentist | How Often Should My Child Visit?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a dental check-up at least twice a year for most children with a frequency of every 6 months. Some children need more frequent dental visits because of increased risk of tooth decay, unusual growth patterns or poor oral hygiene.  A number of factors might make it a good idea to see a dentist three or more times a year. People whose diet is rich in sugary foods or drinks should consider more frequent checkups within 6 months.  The majority of people will produce enough tartar in 6 months that it will need to be scraped off by a dental professional.

Straightening & Whitening Teeth Quickly

One of the questions we get often is how long it takes to straighten or whiten teeth. Straightening or whitening teeth on a time crunch, although not ideal, is a possibility! There are many people like brides, adults who have already had braces, and people with an event date who want something small fixed for their event on a time crunch.

With Dr. Milan Khakhria, this absolutely can be done. Dr. Khakhria can straighten the front teeth within 3 months. This does not mean the treatment is complete, however you can halt the treatment temporarily at a stage that is a lot more esthetic than what you started with.

Remember, those pictures will be around forever and straight front teeth will make a difference! After the honeymoon or event, we can continue the treatment to completion. Whitening can be done a week before the big day. No problem there. Call us today for a free exam!

Why Some Kids Need Braces Earlier Than Others

Why do some kids need orthodontic treatment at a younger age than others?

Lets imagine the leaning tower of Pisa being built. If the builders had noticed the tower leaning at an early stage, do you think they would have tried to straighten it up at that point or would they have carried on? The answer is – it depends. It depends on how far it was leaning over at the early stage. It is the same with your child. If the growth and development of your child is only mildly off the normal range while they are young, you can afford to wait till he/she is fully developed before you consider orthodontic treatment.

If however your child’s development is not within the normal range at a young age, you do not want to wait till he/she is fully grown before you address the issue- this is the tower leaning too far in the early stages. So in this case, the child may need a Phase I treatment early on to bring them into a normal range. These children tend to be in the 7-10 age range. These kids may still need regular orthodontic treatment later (Phase II), however their prognosis of a fabulous result is now at the maximum. So in conclusion, do you want to repair a tower that is leaning slightly or one that has a severe tilt?

Call today to schedule a complimentary orthodontic consultation with Jacaranda Smiles. Dr. Milan Khakhria will examine your child’s jaw and create a unique treatment plan made specifically for them! (954) 452-9988

What Are Some Alternatives to Braces?

A tooth does not know what is pushing on it. Therefore, anything that can apply a constant pressure to the tooth would be considered an alternative to braces. The most well known alternative to braces today is probably Invisalign®.

Invisalign uses a series of plastic trays to apply pressure to the teeth. There are many companies that manufacture a product similar to Invisalign. Other alternatives include removable retainers and lingual braces. Both of these use wires to push the teeth.

If you are interested in straightening your teeth or know someone that is, share this article with them! Jacaranda Smiles offers FREE consultations for orthodontic treatment and we offer both traditional braces and alternatives to braces like Invisalign. Dr. Milan Khakhria would love to share your treatment options with you!
