Orthodontics for All Ages

At Jacaranda Smiles, our patient pool is diverse and ranges from young children to seniors, and everyone in between. We treat many children with orthodontic treatment, and parents love that they can get their children’s pediatric dental care and orthodontic treatment all under the same roof. What you may not know is that we treat many adults with braces and Invisalign clear aligners as well! Many adults in Pembroke Pines, Plantation, Margate, and the surrounding areas of Florida are looking for adult orthodontics. And while most people automatically picture teens with braces when they think of orthodontics, adults can benefit from braces just as much. Whether you’re looking to finally receive the orthodontic treatment you missed out on as a child or you’re looking to fix a more recent problem, our orthodontists have got you covered.

What To Expect At Your Appointment

Everyone’s orthodontic journey at Jacaranda Smiles begins with a thorough consultation so that we can discover exactly what type of treatment you need. Then our orthodontists will rely on you to be open and forthcoming about your expectations as far as the outcome of your treatment. We use x-rays and digital scans to help us gain more insight to your particular case.

If you’re suffering from teeth misalignment, our orthodontist may recommend braces. We offer different types of braces for our adult patients, including traditional metal braces and Invisalign®. Lingual braces—or braces placed on the tongue side of teeth—are yet another discreet orthodontic option that allows you to align your teeth in a less noticeable way. Traditional metal braces are an excellent and effective option for children and adults alike.

Benefits of Orthodontic Treatment

Empower Metal Braces

Self-ligating braces use a different technology that consists of metal gates that open and close to hold the wires in place. This eliminates the need for rubber ties, but patients at Jacaranda Smiles who want the added color can still opt to use them. These braces provide maximum comfort with a fully self-ligating bracket system and are made with advanced metal injection molding technology and highly durable clips.

Benefits of Empower Braces

Lingual Braces

Lingual refers to the tongue or something tongue-like. Lingual braces are a unique orthodontic treatment that gets fixed on the interior surface of teeth (tongue side) instead of the front, like traditional braces. Therefore, lingual braces are virtually invisible eliminating the concern that many adult patients have of wearing unsightly brackets. Our orthodontists use lingual braces on patients who want the discreet correction of Invisalign® but are not good candidates for that type of treatment.

Two commonly used types of lingual braces are MTM No Trace and digitally customized, Harmony braces. These systems utilize small brackets that are easy to bond. These hidden lingual braces are fixed behind the six upper or lower teeth. Typically, the application only takes about 30 minutes. Lingual braces can achieve your desired results in as little as 12 to 24 weeks.

Accelerators For Orthodontic Treatment

The professional team at Jacaranda Smiles understands that patients want to straighten their teeth quickly. Using AcceleDent Aura or PROPEL can shorten orthodontic treatment time by half. In addition, AcceleDent or PROPEL also allow for more comfortable treatment and an enhanced patient experience.

AcceleDent

FDA-approved AcceleDent is a device that is worn around other orthodontic appliances, like braces. AcceleDent generates micro-vibrations in the mouth. This advanced pulsing technology assists tooth movement and helps get teeth aligned much faster. Combined with the force created by orthodontic appliances like braces or aligners, teeth shift into their desired positions for speedier treatment. By wearing AcceleDent for 20 minutes every day, you can accelerate your treatment time significantly. It’s easy. Just bite down on the mouthpiece to start the activator and allow it to pulse for 20 minutes, that is it!

Propel

Patented and FDA-registered, PROPEL is another accelerated orthodontic device that is used at Jacaranda Smiles. Our orthodontists use PROPEL to stimulate the bones in your mouth so that your teeth shift into place more rapidly. A local or topical anesthetic may be applied before the micro-invasive procedure. Typically, there is no discomfort involved and no downtime. After your PROPEL treatment, you can get back to your usual daily routine without restrictions. The benefit of PROPEL is that typically patients only need one in-office treatment. If it’s determined that you need more treatments, our orthodontist will recommend that you return in 6–12 weeks.

Invisalign & Invisalign Teen

Invisalign treatment is a revolutionary way to straighten teeth without traditional brackets and wires. And it’s changed the way people think about orthodontic correction and braces. The clear aligners shift teeth into the proper position gradually and discreetly. In addition, to the original Invisalign, there is also Invisalign Teen. These aligners offer all the same benefits, with additional features that make the process more user-friendly for adolescents. For example, Invisalign braces for teens guide teeth roots, and new molars into the proper position when they begin erupting.

Retainers

If you’re looking to get a retainer, we can help. Retainers are typically used after your orthodontic treatment is complete and your smile looks amazing. To maintain those straight teeth and proper bite, an orthodontic retainer must be worn. If not, all that time and hard work would be for nothing. Retainers prevent your teeth from shifting back into the previous positions. We encourage patients to wear their retainers as recommended.

Hawley Removable Retainers

The Hawley removable retainer is the most commonly used retainer in orthodontics today. This type of custom retainer is crafted of metal wires and an acrylic base. It fits comfortably and snugs in the roof of your mouth. It is designed to maintain the upper arch width. Hawley retainers are easy to adjust as needed. For a fun, personalized look, they are also available in a variety of colors and patterns.

Fixed Teeth Retainer

One of the easiest ways to wear a retainer is to have it permanently attached. Fixed retainers are bonded to the inside surfaces of the upper and lower front teeth. Be sure to clean carefully behind the bottom teeth and the wire when brushing. If your orthodontist prescribes a fixed retainer, be careful how you bite. Improper biting can cause the bonding material to break, resulting in your teeth shifting back.

Invisible Orthodontic Retainer

An invisible orthodontic retainer is a more discreet device. The removable, transparent retainer fits over the entire arch. The lightweight material is flexible and comfortable to wear. Clear retainers work well at holding the position of teeth, but sometimes need to be replaced due to wear and tear.

Depending on the best support for your teeth and your cosmetic desires, our orthodontists will recommend the best retainer for you.
