What is a Malocclusion or an Occlusion and What Are the Causes?

A malocclusion is a term used by dentists for a bad bite. A good bite is one where the teeth are aligned in a ‘u’ shape arch with no gaps or overlapping between the teeth. The opposing jaws should also meet in a way similar to a jigsaw puzzle. The teeth should fit into each other comfortably, allowing efficient chewing without damage to the teeth, gums, muscles or the TMJ. When they don’t meet in this manner, you have a malocclusion. Dr. Khakhria works to help every patient achieve the best occlusion they can.
